Bye, Business 2.0
A MarketWatch story reported that Business 2.0, a "monthly magazine about the new economy", will shut down after publication of the October issue.  This caught my eye because Business 2.0 is the only paid print periodical that I subscribe to.  (My few other print publications are tech-related freebies that I receive for working in the software industry.)  It's sad, but it's just another sign of how media is moving to the online, free model.

But not totally free, right? The NYT has its 'Times Select' deal where you have limited free access to the NYT, and have to pay for full access (I haven't yet made the commitment). I keep waiting for other media outlets to follow their lead.

I think it's a matter of time before sites like the New York Times start losing readers because they charge for online content. They (and WSJ) had such sterling reputations in the print world that I bet most of their customers are the same old print readers. They're not going to find many people willing to pay for NYT from the new crop of folks who grew up with free internet content.
